Your personal sphere of play:

Your future workplace will be in the Division of Religious Education and Catechetics at the Department of Practical Theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology.
The Department of Practical Theology has special academic interest in social developments and their challenges for theology, church, education and politics. In the context of religious plurality, we are concerned with questions relating to the organization and conceptualization of religious education, particularly with regard to the fair treatment of groups of people from different backgrounds, life situations and ages, as well as the sustainable use of resources. Interdisciplinary, interdenominational and interreligious educational programs – also beyond school – need to be developed and evaluated. In addition, we have to develop perspectives how religious education can be organized in an increasingly secular context. In the near future, teaching and research, especially in the area of school and classroom research, will be reorganized in cooperation with the other religious education departments (Protestant, Islamic, Orthodox) and other subject didactics at the University of Vienna.
You contribute to strengthening the inter- and transdisciplinary as well as international orientation of the Department.

The position is limited to six years and is planned to be filled from 01.10.2024.

Your future tasks:

You will be actively involved in research, teaching & administration, i.e.:

  • You write a habilitation thesis
  • You are involved in research projects and academic events
  • You support the acquisition of third-party funded projects
  • You publish internationally and give lectures
  • You teach courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement (4 semester hours per week)
  • You supervise students in developing a professional habitus for their future careers
  • You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance
  • You take on appropriate administrative tasks at the Department/Divison
This is part of your personality:

Minimum requirement profile:

  • Completed doctoral studies in Catholic theology (or PhD), which qualifies for religious education research and is suitable for empirical research
  • (University) didactic skills/experience in e-learning
  • Enjoyment of and interest in collaborating with academics from different disciplines
  • Willingness to acquire third-party funding
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Good written and spoken English and German language skills
  • Social competence
  • teaching experience in religious education (completed teaching internship/traineeship; teaching qualification examination etc.)

Additional qualifications:

  • Experience in participation in research projects, acquisition of third-party funding and independent publication activities
  • Lecturing activities in the context of scientific religious education
  • Experience in qualitative social research
