Area Field Sales Manager

Location: Vienna

Diageo is a world class leader in beverage alcohol, producing an outstanding collection of over 200 brands and owning the top two largest spirit brands in the world, Johnnie Walker and Smirnoff and 20 of the world’s top 100 spirit brands. Its portfolio also includes Cîroc and Ketel One vodkas, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Don Julio, Tanqueray, and Guinness.

Diageo Northern Europe is a diverse region of 11 countries accounting for +500m£ NSV. The newly created CHAT region (Austria & Switzerland) accounts for roughly 60m£ of this with Off Trade having a weight of around 55%.

In Austria, Diageo is the 5th largest branded supplier with meaningful potential to grow share towards market leadership in the next years.

Top Accountabilities

Team leadership:

  • Lead a team of up to 8 Sales Representatives and Brand Ambassador, managing their performance and the growth of the channel.
  • Set up team for success supported by coaching, individual development plans, teamwork, and trustworthy relations.
  • Set high-quality standards for the team to represent our brands to consumers and ensure that our customers are adopting the highest standards.

Sales Skills and Customer acquisition:

  • Support negotiating contracts and implementing the best execution with our gastronomy partners to ensure brilliant execution for our luxury portfolio.
  • Responsible for the commercial outcome of our customer universe which are Restaurants, Bars, clubs, and some whisky specialists stores.
  • Support your team to engage with high-profile customers within a niche market to ensure we create brand awareness.

Brand advocacy

  • Lead the individual target setting for the Diageo advocacy, content creation, distribution, activation, promotion, and innovation agenda, with a strong focus on the Luxury portfolio in the leading outlet universe.
  • Ensure our brands are available and have the perfect visibility in back bars, menus, and on shelf.
  • Develop content creation strategy plans in collaboration with the brand ambassadors ensuring great social media visibility.
  • Hold your team accountable to tell the heritage and history of the portfolio.

Commercial effectiveness:

  • Develop analytics/tools to continually identify target outlets by opportunities, e.g. Execution standard gaps, over/underperformance, segmentation, activity suitability etc.
  • Ensure that your team’s work and all initiatives are tracked in our CRM tool.
  • Collaborate with business effectiveness to ensure all necessary systems and reports for performance tracking are in place.

Ideal experiences / Qualifications / capabilities

  • 5 years + of experience in sales within the luxury FMCG world.
  • Ability to develop and motivate individuals into a successful team which can present themselves and our products in a way that reflects the luxury brand's image and values.
  • Good understanding of P&L
  • Great understanding of the mixology scene, a passion for spirits, and the capacity to deliver strong execution through your team.
  • Excellent communication-, and interpersonal skills to develop relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Affinity for luxury goods and good understanding about luxury brands and the consumers.
