Position Summary

The Market Access & Governmental Affairs Director (m/f/d) will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the market access and governmental affairs strategy for BMS in Austria. This leadership position requires a visionary approach to align market access initiatives with corporate and brand strategies, ensuring the successful implementation of activities at both national and regional levels. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to navigate complex healthcare environments. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the success of BMS in Austria and the broader healthcare landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vision and Strategy Development: Create a comprehensive vision for market access and governmental affairs in Austria. Define and execute the Market Access strategy in alignment with corporate and brand strategies.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage the Austrian market access team to ensure flawless implementation of all activities at both national and regional levels.
  • Strategic Impact: Influence the overall strategy for BMS Austria by representing Market Access in the Austrian Leadership Team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong connections with external stakeholders, including government officials, sick fund executives, hospital payers, and policy makers.
  • Healthcare Policy Influence: Co-create and significantly impact the Austrian healthcare environment and healthcare policies.
  • Industry Associations: Represent BMS in industry associations and co-create strategy and priorities for PHARMIG and FOPI.
  • Market Access Responsibilities: Assume responsibility for pricing and reimbursement, field access, health economics, and governmental affairs.
  • Integrated Planning: Ensure integrated market access plans are part of the launch and brand planning process.
  • Ethics and Compliance: Demonstrate business ethics and judgment to enforce internal control standards and comply with BMS policies and procedures.
  • Team Development: Create and develop a high-performing team of superior talent committed to achieving results.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in legal sciences, political sciences, economics, natural sciences, or a related field.
  • Industry Experience: Extensive experience in senior management or board-level roles within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Market Access Expertise: Proven experience in multiple areas such as pricing and reimbursement, health economics, regulatory affairs, governmental affairs, and corporate communications.
  • Regulations Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships and networks with healthcare decision-makers, including established connections with Austrian (national and regional) healthcare policy makers.
  • Governmental Interaction: Experience in engaging with governmental agencies, hospital administrations, and sick funds.
  • Healthcare Environment Insight: Comprehensive knowledge and awareness of the Austrian healthcare environment.
  • People Management: Strong experience in managing and developing teams, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and German.
  • Leadership in Matrix Organizations: Ability to lead effectively within a matrix organizational structure.
  • Analytical and Strategic Skills: Strong analytical thinking and strategic leadership capabilities.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Social and Networking Abilities: Strong social and networking capabilities, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.

#LI-Hybrid

For this position, a collective agreement minimum salary applies from € 5.684,00 gross per month. An overpayment in line with the market, depending on qualification and experience, is offered.

BMS has a diverse occupancy structure that determines where an employee is required to conduct their work. This structure includes site-essential, site-by-design, field-based and remote-by-design jobs. The occupancy type that you are assigned is determined by the nature and responsibilities of your role:

Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility. For these roles, onsite presence is considered an essential job function and is critical to collaboration, innovation, productivity, and a positive Company culture. For field-based and remote-by-design roles the ability to physically travel to visit customers, patients or business partners and to attend meetings on behalf of BMS as directed is an essential job function.
