Your personal sphere of play:

The “Nanomagnetism and Magnonics” Research Unit under the direction of Prof. Dr. Andrii Chumak at the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna, is an ambitious team conducting internationally leading research in the fields of spintronics and magnonics. The research scope of the group includes spin-wave physics, inverse-design magnonics, spintronics, low-temperature quantum magnonics, unconventional computing, and nonlinear spin-wave phenomena in nanoscale hybrid systems. We are looking for a Senior Scientist with outstanding expertise in experimental magnonics to support the group in its cutting-edge research on spin waves. The position is limited to two years with the possibility of extension.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Contribute to the goals of the Research Unit "Nanomagnetism and Magnonics" as a Senior Scientist.
  • Focus on time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (TR-MOKE) and Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopies.
  • Perform cutting-edge experiments in the field of inverse-design magnonics and on the control of spin-wave transport in two-dimensional structures.
  • Develop and maintain complex experimental instrumentation, including TR-MOKE and BLS spectroscopies.
  • Hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
This is part of your personality:
  • Hold a doctoral degree in experimental physics.
  • Possess experience in experimental studies of magnon transport using various techniques, including optical and microwave spectroscopies.
  • Required experience in nanofabrication of samples in a clean room environment, including optical and electron beam lithography.
  • General knowledge and experience in spintronics and magnetism are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrate strong programming and experimental research skills.
  • Experience in (co-) supervising students and teaching is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of English. Advanced knowledge of German is an advantage.
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
