ROLE OVERVIEW

Carbon Market Analyst | Vienna, Austria

We are seeking a Carbon Market Analyst to join our Vienna office and contribute to building our research platform. The ideal candidate will be a researcher with strong understanding of the emissions markets in the EU and North America. Experience in the primary auctions is a plus. The ability to collaborate across teams and support multiple projects is essential.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the firm’s authority on market structure and auction design in the main ETS markets in Europe and North America, such as EUA (European Union Allowances), CCA (California Carbon Allowances), and RGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative).
• Develop comprehensive supply and demand models for the ETS markets mentioned above to inform market insights.
• Design, evaluate, and implement strategic initiatives across all environmental markets, ensuring clear communication with senior risk takers to identify and capitalize on market opportunities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the mechanics of the physical auctions. Work closely with legal and outside counsel to establish registration and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Collaborate with the operations team to establish and streamline processes for clearing and custody.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including market participants and policymakers to stay informed on regulatory changes.
• Monitor market news and regulatory developments to identify changes ensuring timely updates to the firm’s approach.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, or related Engineering or STEM field.
• Strong familiarity with Python and SQL databases.
• Excellent communication skills, with a self-starter mentality, quick learning ability, positive attitude, and a strong team-oriented approach.
• High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
• Strong work ethic, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
