We are looking for a Senior Scientist with outstanding expertise in RF measurement technology to support Oliver Heckl's group in its cutting-edge research on low-noise frequency combs and their application for precision measurements. The position is limited to four years.

Your personal sphere of play:

Oliver Heckl’s research centers on optical metrology and sensing, ultimately aiming to develop experiments sensitive enough to track time variations of fundamental constants. To that end, we are working on novel schemes in broadband precision spectroscopy and light-matter interaction of structured light. Our research includes work on low-noise (mid-IR) fiber lasers, mid-IR supermirrors, environmentally stable single-cavity dual-combs, and frequency combs in general. The position is limited to four years.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Contribute to the goals of the Optical Metrology Group.

  • Focus on our current experimental developments and perform cutting-edge experiments initially in the field of frequency comb-mode resolved spectroscopy.

  • Develop and maintain complex research infrastructure.

  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement and supervise students.

  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.

  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching, and administration.

This is part of your personality:

• Completed doctoral degree in experimental physics, ideally with a focus on optics/laser physics.
• Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media (Q1) and conference contributions.
• A strong background in the following topics is highly beneficial: Fiber Lasers (i.e. NALM), Laser Amplification (i.e. CPA), Mid-Infrared Nonlinear Wavelength Conversion (i.e. OPO, OPA, DFG), Noise Analysis of Light Sources (i.e. RIN, PN).
• A background in electronics and advanced RF measurement technology is necessary.
• Programming skills and experience in Python, Matlab, and Mathematica are a clear plus.
• Experience in (co-)supervising students is desirable.
• Earlier involvement in teaching, ideally in related courses (quantum electronics/optics) is an advantage.
• Excellent knowledge of English and German
• Team player and high social/communicative skills.

What we offer:

Work-life balance: Our employees enjoy flexible working hours, remote/hybrid and/or part-time work (upon agreement).

Inspiring working atmosphere: You are a part of an international academic team in a healthy and fair working environment.

Good public transport connections: Your workplace in the center of beautiful Vienna is easily accessible by public transport.

Internal further training & Coaching: Opportunity to deepen your skills on an ongoing basis. There are over 600 courses to choose from – free of charge.

Fixed-term contract and fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 4,752,30 (14 times a year) for a period of 4 years /48months increases if we can credit professional experience.

Equal opportunities for all: We welcome every additional/new personality to the team!

It is that easy to apply:
  • With your scientific curriculum vitae / letter of intent
  • With your list of publications
  • With your summary of research interests (max. 1 p.)
  • Doctoral Degree
