Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Faculty of Physics in the work group electronic properties of materials of Professor Pichler (epm.univie.ac.at). The Pichler group unites an international team of currently 10 young scientists which love to solve challenges and working together. Together we have assembled a unique skill set and knowledge base in solid state physics and nanospectroscopy including cutting edge methods development and advanced synthesis and functionalization of low dimensional advanced materials such as graphene, nanotubes, carbyne TMDC. Hence, the successful candidate will have to provide expert knowledge in experimental and theoretical solid-state spectroscopy and the development of spectroscopic techniques available in the group. Knowledge on synthesis and analysis of advanced novel low dimensional materials such as carbon nanotubes, 2D materials (e.g. TMDC, graphene) and their heterostructures. This also needs a sound knowledge of solid state physics including also teaching experience in this field and co-supervision of students. Regarding spectroscopic techniques for this position especially long-lasting experience in optical techniques and especially Raman spectroscopy as well as electron spectroscopies especially EELS and Photoemission is beneficial. Within this framework the position will be also related to the ERC-Syn Project MORE-TEM (more-tem.univie.ac.at) and in an international cooperation to the O VID (Osaka-Vienna International Development) laboratory (ovid.univie.ac.at).

The successful candidate will be part of a thriving community at the Faculty of Physics of Vienna University which is ranked number 16 in Europe and number 48 in the world (2023 Global Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects, https://www.shanghairanking.com/rankings/gras/2023/RS0102). Working with us in the Pichler group means exploring the scientific frontiers pushing the limits of nanospectrocopy towards accessing their application potential of novel low dimensional advanced materials, by solving unexplored challenges. The candidate will collaborate with international interdisciplinary teams which require frequent hosting of visitors as well as visiting collaborators. The full position starts at 1.1.2025 and comprises 40 weekly hours. The position is initially limited to one year with the option of permanent employment.
