The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried near Munich is one of the leading international research institutes in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology and biomedical research. With around 30 scientific departments and research groups and around 750 employees, it is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPG). We are looking for a new member of our team to support our data center as of 01.01.2025 or later System Engineer / System Administrator (m/f/d) The position is initially limited to two years, but permanent employment is planned if the candidate proves themselves. The institute's IT landscape comprises around 4,500 devices and is based on the operating system platforms Unix/Linux, Windows and macOS. Your tasks Administration and conception of the Exchange Server HA instance, including back-up and storage systems Administration and design of the Active Directory and Windows server services, including back-up and disaster recovery Administration and design of software distribution (Matrix42 Empirum) Contact person (m/f/d) for the helpdesk (third-level support) Planning and expansion of the Windows environment Your profile Successfully completed studies in the IT sector or equivalent training with relevant professional experience Sound knowledge and experience with Windows Server 2016 to Server 2022 and Windows server services, such as WSUS, KMS, print server, RDS Very good knowledge of the structure and administration of Exchange Server 2016 and newer versions (DAG, organization configuration, client access) Good knowledge and experience in setting up Active Directory domain structures Administration with PowerShell and command line Experience and knowledge of software distribution systems and software packaging Programming knowledge (PowerShell, C#) desirable Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft 365 desirable Good knowledge of German and English Analytical thinking and a structured approach to difficult technical challenges Independent, proactive and goal-oriented work in a team What we offer We offer an interesting, varied and challenging job in a scientific, modern and international environment.
