Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Faculty of Physics, working as a senior member of the Computational and Soft Matter Physics Subunit in the Experimental Soft Matter Physics (SoMeX) group led by Prof. Roberto Cerbino. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in a broad field covering aspects of experiments in Soft Matter Physics. The position also includes an obligation to participate in teaching activities of the Faculty and gives the possibility (if applicable to the profile) to prepare a publication-ready habilitation thesis. The duration of the position is up to 6 years.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Develop and enhance an independent research profile.
  • Provide active support to the ongoing collaborative research projects of the Experimental Soft Matter Physics group.
  • Secure third-party funding for externally funded research projects within the group.
  • Publish research findings in reputable international journals, and present at international conferences.
  • Foster collaborative relationships within and outside the faculty to promote interdisciplinary research and teaching.
  • Conduct independent teaching of courses as per the collective agreement.
  • Supervise, support, and examine students, ensuring a valuable learning environment.
  • Assist in the organization of academic events such as conferences, meetings, and symposia to facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Contribute to group, faculty, and institutional activities.
  • Engage in evaluation measures and quality assurance activities to uphold research and teaching standards.
  • Continuously enhance professional skills through active participation in relevant workshops, seminars, and training programs.
  • Build a professional network by engaging with the broader academic, research community.
This is part of your personality:
  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in physics or related disciplines.
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media.
  • Experience in research management and in leading project staff.
  • Didactic skills / experience in e-learning.
  • Knowledge of German is welcome.
  • Excellent knowledge in written and oral English (C1).
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills.
  • Experience in microscopy (in particular differential dynamic microscopy) and scattering setups and experiments is a strong requirement.
  • Experience with image processing is a strong requirement.
