The Department of German Studies at the University of Vienna is the largest research and teaching center in Austria, covering the fields of German language and literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistics, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology. More than 5000 students are enrolled.

In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. Your workplace:The Senior Lecturer position is assigned to the area of German Linguistics, whose research and teaching focus is on the German language in its entirety. Special areas of the Linguistics are: Research into contemporary German, the modern and older language history of German, sociolinguistics and variationist linguistics (with a focus on the German language in Austria), language contact and multilingualism research, digital linguistics, areal linguistics, pragmatics, linguistic cultural analysis, political linguistics, media linguistics, text and discourse linguistics, language attitudes and perception, language reflection, academic communication and history. The aforementioned focal points take into account different structural levels (phonology, morphology, syntax and lexis).
As a Senior Lecturer, you will primarily be involved in teaching in the area of linguistics, where you will be responsible for courses in the Bachelor and Master of Education for German as a teaching subject as well as the Bachelor and Master of German Philology.
In the event of a positive evaluation at the end of the fixed-term period of 4 years, the position will be changed into a permanent position.
The employment level of 22.8 hours/week includes an average teaching obligation of 8 semester hours per week of academic teaching.
