Your personal sphere of play:Your future place is at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry. You will join the research group of Prof. Veronika Somoza, where you will find excellent opportunities for research in food chemistry and the bioactivity of food compounds. Flavor compounds play a crucial role in the selection and sensory perception of food. Achieving a deeper understanding of their chemistry and bioactivity on a molecular level will support the development of sustainable food products with high consumer preference.
The institute is part of the Faculty of Chemistry and has access to various core facilities.
The position is limited to six years, with the option of granted tenure provided the excellent performance of the candidate.
Your future tasks:You will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration, which includes:
• Engaging in research projects focused on flavor compounds, sensory perception, and bioactivity of food constituents
• Develop and implement novel workflows for high-throughput quantitation of flavor compounds
• Develop and apply new data science tool like databases and apps
• Supervising and training PhD, master, and bachelor students in analyzing the chemical, functional and structural properties of bioactive compounds.
• Supporting the application process for projects and securing third-party funds.
• Independently conducting courses, primarily in the field of food chemistry, within the scope of the collective agreement provisions.
• Taking on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
• Completed doctoral/PhD study or comparable academic research position in food chemistry, food science and technology, or a similar field with a focus on flavor compound chemistry, bioactivity and integrated data analysis
• Extensive knowledge in operating advanced analytical instrumentation, including mass spectrometry, method development and implementation
• Experience in setup, supervision and training of sensory evaluation panels, including experiment design, application of software tools for on-site and remote testing, and integrated data analysis
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the integrated analysis of complex datasets from sensory analysis and omics data to develop comprehensive data base applications; application of a data-science oriented programming language, ideally R or Python
• Demonstrated research competence and initiative through international publications in peer-reviewed media.
• Didactic skills and experience in academic teaching, preferably in food chemistry; knowledge of e-learning is desirable.
• Experience in co-supervising PhD and master students.
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1 level); German language skills are desirable.
• A team player with high social and communicative skills.
