Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Archival Science
The Institute for Austrian Historical Research has a long tradition of training archivists. The Tenure Track position will strengthen the training program and carry out and support innovative research in the field of archival science. Successful applicants will therefore have excellent knowledge of theory and practice in archives, be familiar with international debates in archival studies and want to contribute to overcoming the current challenges facing archives as a result of ongoing digitization. With its research on new strategies and methods of archiving, this tenure track position is in close exchange with the Faculty’s Digital Humanities projects and the practical developments in Austrian and international archives. We invite applications from all colleagues who want to set new trends in archival science with innovative, theory-based and practice-oriented research in an optimal research environment. The position involves active participation in teaching and in the Doctoral School. Close cooperation with the Austrian and international archives and collaboration in the research focus areas of the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies offers numerous opportunities to further develop your own research in an intellectually stimulating network.
The Faculty is home to all the historical departments at the University of Vienna. The institutes, working groups and specialist libraries that exist today are spread across various locations at the University of Vienna. A special feature among all departments is the Institute for Austrian Historical Research, which was founded in 1854, is run as an organizational unit of the federal government and was integrated into the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies in 2016. The Institute of Austrian Historical Research is an internationally recognized research and training center for methodology, the cultivation of historical auxiliary sciences (paleography, documentary studies, diplomatics, source studies, etc.) and the training of archivists. Due to the close, institutional connection with the Austrian archives in the area of teaching and research, there is an excellent working environment for the tenure track position in archival science.
