In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. The Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Vienna is an innovative and future-orientated faculty. Based on a strong disciplinary core, the broad range of subjects at the University of Vienna opens up many opportunities for modern computer science, which is increasingly entering application areas at the interfaces to the natural sciences, economics, medicine, social sciences and humanities.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer, you will be employed in the field of programming languages. You will primarily organise and lead introductory and in-depth courses in the areas of programming as well as concepts and theoretical foundations of programming languages.

The position can also be filled on a part-time basis (20 hours/week).

The employment level of 40 hours/week includes an average teaching commitment of 14 semester hours per week of academic teaching, with an employment level of 20 hours/week an average of 7 semester hours per week of academic teaching.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in scientific teaching, research & administration, which means:

  • You will independently lead courses at Bachelor's and Master's level, develop them in line with the current state of research and coordinate their content with the other courses in the curricula.
  • You will make an active contribution to the (further) development of course and examination formats, help to determine the requirements for the necessary technical infrastructure and coordinate these with the relevant bodies.
  • We expect from you the ongoing reception of the current state of science as well as continuing didactic training.
  • In addition, the assumption of administrative tasks, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job profile.
What we expect:

We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging career field. Requirements for application are:

  • Completed doctorate in the field of computer science/business informatics

  • Several years of independent teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution

  • Enthusiasm for the transfer of knowledge and for university teaching

  • Excellent language skills in German and English (written and spoken) or willingness to quickly acquire excellent German skills if excellent English skills are available

  • Practical (professional) experience in larger software development projects
