The Moral Philosophy Group at the University of Vienna is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in moral and political philosophy. The group is led by Univ.-Prof. Paulina Sliwa. We work in moral, political, and feminist philosophy.
The position is based at the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Education and Philosophy. The contract is for 3 years and renewable for another 3 years (6 years in total). The desired starting date is 1.2.2025 (an earlier start date is possible).
Your personal sphere of play:The Moral Philosophy Group is part of the Department of Philosophy, which is one of the largest philosophy departments in the German speaking world and provides an outstanding and international research environment.
The position will also be affiliated with the FWF-funded Cluster of Excellence “Knowledge in Crisis”. This is a cooperation between the Central European University and the Universities of Vienna, Graz, and Salzburg, exploring questions about the nature, transmission, and ethics and politics of knowledge.
Your future tasks:The successful candidate will participate in research, teaching and administration. This involves the following:
• Producing excellent research in moral/political philosophy.
• Taking part in and help organising reading groups/workshops/visiting talks in moral/political philosophy.
• Taking part in Cluster-activities (talks, research group meetings, workshops).
• Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and giving talks and research presentations.
• Applying for projects and third-party funds.
• Teaching courses (the teaching load is 4 SWS/per semester) at BA and MA level.
• Supervising students working in moral and political philosophy.
• Participating in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
• Taking on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
Required:
• Completed PhD in moral/political philosophy (Note: the PhD must have been defended by the application deadline)
• MA-degree in Philosophy
• Track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals (commensurate with career stage)
• Teaching experience
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1)
• Organisational skills and willingness to organise events, including reading groups, talks, workshops
• Ability to work in a team
• Willingness to contribute to the research and activities of the Cluster of Excellence “Knowledge in Crisis”.
Desirable:
• PhD already awarded.
Note that many courses at the University of Vienna are taught in English, so knowledge of German is not required.
