Postdoc Position (f/m/x)
(full-time, 40 hours per week)
at the Institute for Medieval Research (IMAFO)/ Division for Historical Identity Research, in the Cluster of Excellence ‚EurAsian Transformations ‘ in the field of ‚Europe, Byzantium and the Medieval Eurasian Steppe ‘.
Your tasks: - Own research on the development of Christian identities and the influence of late antique/early medieval Latin Christianity on other forms of identification in a global perspective
- Active participation in Node 3 of the Cluster of Excellence 'Identities and Religions', in particular in the case study 'The Emergence of New Strategies of Identification in the Christianization of Europe' and in the Transversal Working Group 'Diversity, Identification and Distinction'
- Collaboration with the COE research group at the Institute for Asian Cultural and Intellectual History on 'Religious Identifications in South Asia' and with other COE members to develop comparative studies on the development of religious identities and alterities
- Commitment to the goals of the Cluster and to the integration of its members as well as participation in training and transfer/outreach activities.
- Active participation in the scientific and organizational activities of the Institute for Medieval Studies
Your profile: - PhD in the field of Medieval Studies
- Experience in working with Latin sources
- Excellent knowledge of English required, good knowledge of German is welcome
- Further language skills or willingness to learn source languages depending on the chosen focus
- Several years of postdoctoral practice within the field of research desirable
- Familiarity with the approaches of identity research and global history
- Basic skills in the field of digital humanities
- Experience in large-scale historical projects and interdisciplinary cooperation is desirable
- International publication and lecture activities
- Experience abroad and international connectedness
- Flexibility, communication skills, creativity, ability to work in a team
The annual gross salary is € 66.501,40 according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The position is limited with the end of the project on September 30th , 2028.
