As a Senior Lecturer, you will play a key role in educating students. Besides a solid academic education, we attach particular importance to the personal development of students. We support students in developing a curious and problem-solving way of thinking and thereby create a solid basis for professional challenges of the next generation.

Your workplace:

The position of Senior Lecturer is assigned to the Department of Geography and Regional Research (IfGR) at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy. With more than 100 academic staff and 3,500 students, IfGR offers an inspiring environment for addressing urgent societal challenges in research and teaching from a geographical perspective. As Senior Lecturer, you will be involved in teaching both at the Bachelor's level and at the Master's level in the field of human and economic geography. At Master's level, the focus is on the geography of innovation and socio-economic sustainability transitions.

The working time of 20 hours per week includes teaching duties of, on average, 7 semester hours of academic teaching.

Your future tasks:
  • You independently conduct courses at the Bachelor's and Master's level in the field of human and economic geography in German and English
  • You supervise papers of students in Bachelor's courses and Master's theses (on the basis of the statutes of the University of Vienna)
  • You actively contribute to (further) developing course and exam formats (including digital teaching and learning opportunities)
  • The ongoing reception of the current state of research as well as didactic training and taking over research tasks are expected
  • In addition, the egagement in organizational and administrative activities, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job profile
Preconditions for an application / terms of admission:
  • Completed doctorate in the subject area
  • Several years of independent, professionally relevant, and well-evaluated teaching at a post-secondary educational institution
  • Very good didactic skills (including digital formats)
  • Knowledge of methods (quantitative or qualitative)
  • Experience with English-language teaching
  • Enthusiasm for passing on knowledge and for university teaching
