About the team:The research group Scientific Computing, led by Prof. Siegfried Benkner, focuses on research in programming paradigms, languages, compilers, and software and hardware infrastructures for scientific computing to support users in the process of solving increasingly complex compute- and data-intensive problems in science and engineering on high-end parallel and distributed computing platforms.
The selected candidate will participate in an international and interdisciplinary research project under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Atakan Aral. The project aims to ensure seamless and reliable monitoring of critical infrastructures (e.g., facilities for water supply and electricity generation) through real-time and distributed processing of IoT sensor data. The project team will include doctoral and master’s students in our group, as well as international partners from the University of Sheffield, UK, and University College Dublin, Ireland.

Active participation in research and administration, which means:
• You develop an independent research profile in the field of distributed systems.
• You get involved in the research and management of the EU project mentioned above.
• You supervise the research conducted by master’s and doctoral students.
• You engage with colleagues from adjacent fields and collaborate on interdisciplinary research.
• You publish internationally and give lectures.
• You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
This is a purely research-oriented position with no teaching duties, unless the candidate specifically requests them, in which case additional compensation will be provided.
• You have completed doctoral/PhD studies in Computer Science or a closely related field, or you expect to complete them by 31.12.2024.
• You have established experience in distributed systems, ideally in the areas of the Internet of Things, Edge/Cloud Computing, Edge AI/Federated Learning, or Sensor Networks, with a focus on resource management, latency/performance optimization, fault tolerance, scalability, or energy efficiency/sustainability.
• You have research competence and initiative proven through international publications in reputable conferences and journals.
• You have excellent written and spoken English skills, demonstrated by high-quality academic writing and communication. (Our working language is English.)
• You are experienced in research management and leading project staff.
• You are a team player with strong social/communicative skills.
