The FWF-funded Emerging Fields project A new Geometry for Einstein’s Theory of Relativity & Beyond (as part of the Excellent=Austria initiative) develops a completely new approach to spacetime curvature that promises applications in relativity and quantum gravity.

To support its consortium of five Principal Investigators we are looking for a

Scientific Manager (20h / week)

to be based at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Vienna and to start immediately or any time before February, 2025.

Your role

In close collaboration with the consortium you will oversee the operation of the entire project. Your tasks will include:

  • Support and coordinate recruitment of new project members
  • Financial administration of the project
  • Organization of events, seminars, meetings, conferences, travels and hosting visitors
  • Communication with partner institutions and funding agency (FWF)
  • Coordination of communication and transfer activities
  • Coordination of scientific and financial reporting
  • Coordinate collaboration between other relevant research infrastructures locally, nationally and internationally
  • Maintain the the website of the project
  • Optional: Participate in writing funding applications and associated reporting
Your profile

Ideally you have a background in natural sciences or engineering (a PhD is not neccessary) and experience in (scientific) project management. You communicate effectively and have an excellent command of the English language. Being a team player, you also have proven your leadership skills. Knowledge of and experience in the Austrian academic sector and experience in leading (research) projects are an advantage. Moreover, proficiency with web design (e.g. in wordpress) or a commitment to learn it is required.

  • has the ability to create a positive organizational culture and stimulate different local working groups to work towards common goals
  • has good organizational and sector understanding and the ability to think holistic and strategically
  • can communicate well both orally and in writing, also in digital channels, be outgoing and active, and a be good representative of the project
  • has the ability for structured administrative work.

Fair salary: The basic salary of € 2.460,10 (full-time basis, 14 times a year) increases if we can credit professional experience. This position is initially limited for a period of 1 year and can be extended afterwards through mutual agreement.
