Job title: Scientific Senior Project Manager (f/m/d)

Job location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI-ERIC in Graz, Austria or remote work

Job purpose: As Scientific Senior Project Manager, you are responsible for the scientific management & project management of international projects in the Life Sciences including biobanking and biomolecular resources field, which involve large consortia of leading European life science research infrastructures. To concentrate sufficiently on scientific management endeavors, the administration of the projects is supported by Project Management Officer(s).

Contract: Full-time contract (40 hours/week). As work-life balance is a high priority at BBMRI-ERIC less than a full-time contract can be agreed.

Who we are:

BBMRI-ERIC is the European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. As one of the largest European Research Infrastructures in Life Science with 24 Member States plus IARC/WHO, we bring together all the main players from the biobanking and biomolecular resources field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical and life science research. To that end, we offer quality management services, support with ethical, legal and societal issues, a number of online tools and software solutions and biobanking development. Ultimately, our goal is to enable personalised medicine to the fullest. This is part of the “One Health” paradigm which is the overarching theme of BBMRI-ERIC’s 10-Year Roadmap 2025-2030.

Key responsibilities as Scientific Senior Project Manager:

  • you are passionate about the EU Framework Programme (Horizon Europe) in terms of scientific management and project management;
  • with your scientific understanding you will liaise with partners about any project related tasks, deliverables and reports;
  • with your profound project management knowledge you make sure that all scientific, legal, financial and administrative obligations and tasks are developed and followed according to the rules stated in the project’s contract;
  • with a high degree of personal responsibility, you work on demanding challenges, engage and build relationship with the scientific community of renowned national and international consortium members;
  • your impact driven mind-set guarantees the successful kick-off, implementation, continuation and completion of projects;
  • overseeing the financial management of the consortium, reporting regularly to consortium members, resolving project related issues, and addressing project data management and risk management plans as well as ethical, gender, equality, and diversity requirements will make your day;
  • ensuring relevant project documentation, which is regularly updated and made available on our common filing platform, is a breeze for you;
  • regular conference calls are an environmentally friendly form of collaboration for you, complemented by some face-to-face meetings and conferences;
  • building and maintaining scientific relationships is supported by your clearly structured forms of communication and inspired by your scientific expertise.

In this role your required qualifications and skills are:

  • experience, minimum 3 years, in the scientific management of interdisciplinary and international projects (especially Horizon Europe);
  • familiarity with the European Research Infrastructure ecosystem and with EU funding programmes
  • University studies (PhD or experience in research in the field of science);
  • superior experience in leading and guiding international consortia, including diplomatic skills when dealing with senior external management;
  • smart handling of MS Project, Excel or similar programs not only makes your life easier, but also that of the entire consortium;
  • your communication and organizational skills bring teamwork to life;
  • professional fluency in English, as English is the official working language of BBMRI-ERIC;
  • readiness for moderate travel.

Employment terms and conditions

As we aim to provide a diverse work environment, the work can be performed at the headquarters in Graz with occasional home office options or remotely.

The employment follows the Austrian employment law.

What we offer

€ 90,000.00 as minimum annual gross salary, based on 40 hours/week, (European/international standards for similar roles and responsibilities and requirements considered); final salary dependent on terms of qualifications and experience.
