Institute for Ethics in Management
Fulltime, 40 hours/week
Starting as soon as possible, and ending after 6 years You have decided to pursue an academic career and want to conduct research, teach, and be an active member of the scientific community in the field of ethics in management and organization theory? This position is the next step in your career in research as part of the Institute for Ethics in Management. Modern societies are shaped by market economies, organizational structures and management practices. These receive their legitimacy and their meaning from moral contexts. For organization and management are ultimately means to the end of a good life and prosperous societies. Ethics in management examines this relationship between management, organizational practices and morality. We concentrate on philosophical theories of ethics and their application in business and society as well as researching concrete questions and dilemmas of the morality of leadership, decision-making and action in and beyond organizations.

What to expect

  • Independent research: You will be independently gathering data, working with cooperation partners and companies to conduct research with practical relevance, and publishing your findings in top journals.
  • Teaching: You will be planning and teaching courses and holding exams, preferably in English and German.
  • Student support: You will be available to answer students’ questions and act as an advisor for bachelor’s theses and as a co-advisor for master’s theses.
  • Organizational and administrative support: You will be organizing and evaluating teaching activities, planning exams, keeping the budget in mind, and acquiring third-party funding.
  • Learning from top researchers: You will be working together with renowned researchers in your field and learn with and from them.
  • Teamwork: At the institute, you’ll be working to advance research in your field together with a team of engaged colleagues.
  • Building up a personal network: You will be using the post-doc phase to establish yourself as a researcher and expand your own professional network.

What you have to offer

  • Your degree: You graduated with excellent grades from a doctoral degree program focusing on ethics in management, organizations and society. An integrative approach that brings together social sciences and humanities is useful.
  • Research interest: You have a strong interest in the philosophical foundations of ethical argumentation and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary fashion. You have good understanding of management practices and processes as well as organizations. You have strong skills in gathering and analysing data.
  • First academic papers: You have already published in the field of ethics in management and have a strong pipeline of working papers. Your publications are targeted at journals included in the list of the WU Department of Management (see https://www.wu.ac.at/management/journal-rating).
  • International experience: You can prove that you gained international experience during your degree program or in a professional context at another international university and speak excellent English. German would be welcome.
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You have experience in using multimedia teaching and learning formats and are willing to continuously develop and improve the use of technology for teaching.
  • IT skills: You are familiar with MS Office as well as data analysis software such as NVivo or similar software.
  • Working style: You work independently, show initiative, and have good self-organization skills.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €4,932.90 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
