At the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a
Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Digital AnthropologyWe are seeking to appoint a tenure-track professor in the field of Digital Anthropology, with a focus on the implications of digitalization and digital technologies, as well as the methodological challenges of these processes for social and cultural anthropology. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research and teaching in this field. Extensive experience with online and/or offline ethnographic fieldwork is required. Successful candidates are expected to connect to inter- and transdisciplinary research networks and platforms within the university and beyond. Collaboration in the research focus areas of the Faculty of Social Sciences and of the University of Vienna, such as Digital and Data-Driven Transformations of Science and Society, is particularly encouraged and offers numerous opportunities to further develop their own research in an intellectually stimulating environment.
Digital and Data-Driven Transformations of Science and Society is one of the strategic priorities of the University of Vienna, in which the University plans to make an impact by combining the insight and expertise of academics and educators. In addition, knowledge cultures and digitalisation is a key research area of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Vienna is renowned for its extensive research and teaching activities in this area, for example through its Digital Ethnography Initiative. With the Vienna Visual Anthropology Lab, the department established a hub for visual and multimodal anthropology, and contributes not only to the tradition of ethnographic film-making and photography, but creates opportunities to develop media projects and to implement media practices in research and education. The department is one of the largest in the German speaking area, with a wide range of research in diverse domains such as politics, the economy, health and medicine, infrastructure, care and the state, art, and media.
