At the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a
Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Theories of ReligionThe Tenure Track position focuses, systematically and based on extensive expertise in the history of religions, on the theoretical foundations of research on religion, both ancient and modern, and its methods. Core questions include how, when and why religion developed; which conditions and characteristics make religion a specific cultural phenomenon; which structural features of religion allow it to be theoretically explored in its diversity in the first place and how this can be implemented terminologically across disciplines. The tenure track position also makes an essential contribution to innovative theoretical desiderata in new intersecting disciplines such as Cognitive Science of Religion. The position complements the profile of the University of Vienna in the field of Religious Studies and contributes to its teaching across curricula.
The Faculty of Catholic Theology, in addition to Catholic, Orthodox and Islamic theology, also houses the interdisciplinary research center “Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society”, which networks religious research at the University of Vienna.
