Location: US Based Work / Living Permit for the US necessary - No Sponsorship
This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will be responsible for establishing the company’s research strategy and capability and building a product portfolio of inhaled immunotherapies for acute respiratory infections. This role will lead projects and be responsible for developing and executing the strategy and progressing therapeutic candidates from early discovery to IND filing. In addition, this position will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new technology and product opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the executive management team and the Board, provide scientific leadership in defining the company’s product pipeline and in developing and executing corporate strategies and plans.
Develop and manage the research and preclinical development programs, including outsourcing and collaboration activities, to establish a pipeline of drug candidates.
Work closely with the founder and Chief Scientific Officer to develop and in-license new products and technologies.
Develop and manage plans that are capital efficient, executed on time, meet identified objectives and are within budget
Work with the executive team to establish and manage new collaborations and strategic partnerships.
Manage existing grant spending to meet grant deliverables. Work with the CSO to apply for new grants and contracts to support development the company’s pipeline.
Assess external technologies and product opportunities to build the company’s capabilities and
pipeline.
Provide day-to-day management of the research organization by hiring, training, coaching, developing, and appraising research staff. Manage personnel issues, ensure timely performance appraisals, handle employee relations issues, and other staff development initiatives.
Support and demonstrate a positive, collaborative approach in working with internal and external colleagues.
Represent the company confidently to existing and prospective investors.
Effectively direct the activities of remote teams and collaborators. Travel as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
PhD in immunology, virology, bioengineering or related field and 10-15 years’ experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.
Broad experience in therapeutic antibody R&D from discovery through pre-clinical development is required.
Demonstrated decision making ability to prioritize and focus R&D activities to meet company objectives.
Excellent track record of building a pipeline of high-quality drug candidates based on solid science.
Experience leading cross-functional product development teams that have brought products into the clinic.
Prefer leadership experience in rapidly growing startup and/or early stage biotechs.
Depth of understanding of immunology or virology as evidenced by publications and presentations in the field.
Proven track record in developing and managing R&D strategic and operating plans, budgets as well as recruiting and managing a team in a biotech research environment
A history of developing a culture of teamwork, collaboration and communication.
Excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively
Good knowledge of GLP, GMP and GCP regulatory requirements
Experience supporting clinical development particularly in PK, PD and ADA assay development and analysis.
