As in silico drug discovery expert, you combine a drug discovery industry background with scientific expertise in computational chemistry. You are a creative driver of change and experienced in motivating and developing teams operating at the cutting edge of science.
As Scientific Director Computational Chemistry within the Medicinal Chemistry department, you are responsible for supporting the area of Oncology Research, you lead a team of principal scientists actively influencing the discovery of breakthrough small molecule therapies, including peptides, covalent inhibitors, PROTACs, molecular glues. This position can be filled in part time (from 30h/week) to full time. The deadline for applications is May 15th.
Tasks & responsibilities
- In your new role as Scientific Director, you will lead and develop a team of computational chemists focusing on creating impact to research projects in the therapeutic area of Oncology.
- You will be a key contributor to the early project portfolio by early target and tool assessments, and you will lead research projects in the target validation and lead finding phases.
- As a member of interdisciplinary teams, you will design and optimize biologically active compounds, pursuing different modalities and target classes, in a collaborative, international setting.
- Thanks to your scientific expertise and your guidance, your team will contribute to research projects with state-of-the-art computational chemistry methods.
- You will contribute to the strategic direction of the global Computational Chemistry group and you drive the development, advancement, and adaption of novel computational chemistry technologies.
- Furthermore, you will collaborate with colleagues from Medicinal Chemistry, Structural Research, Screening and Profiling
Requirements
- PhD in chemistry, physics, computer science, mathematics, or related discipline. Alternatively, master´s degree with long-term professional experience.
- Proven track record in small molecule drug discovery and familiarity with pharmacological and medicinal chemistry concepts. Experience in oncology drug design would be a plus.
- Experience in target identification, validation, and assessment.
- Excellent knowledge and practical experience with standard computational chemistry software packages in the context of small molecule drug discovery and familiarity with Linux and the principles of machine learning, and strong supporter of digitalization in drug design
- Experience in leading and developing people (teams or projects) in a research context, preferably gained in an industrial drug discovery setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and mentoring skills paired with an agile and entrepreneurial mindset, and openness to travel to Boehringer Ingelheim Research sites several times a year.

The remuneration for this position starts at EUR 105.000 gross annual target salary per year (full time). The actual salary package depends on professional experience and qualifications. We will be happy to discuss further details in person.
